Whenever Jesus did anything public, He always focused on what He said, what He did, and how He treated people. It is by His words and actions, that Jesus is still remembered so strongly today, and it is by His example that the Kingdom of God grows exponentially. And yet, what is Jesus asking of us? In this passage, Jesus is saying that He wants to see the Kingdom of God growing inside of us, but the best way to do that, in our fallible, fallen state, is to see that we are poor in spirit. If we examine ourselves the way God sees us, we will have a "woe is me" in the sight of God mindset. It is at this point God can do is work in us, and make something great of us. The question is; are we weary of our sins? Do we care enough about breaking free from our sins? The good news is that if we CONTINUALLY confess our sins, He is faithful and just to CONTINUALLY forgive us our sins (1 John 1:9). It is an ongoing effort, but if we are Kingdom focused, it is incumbent upon us to care about the Kingdom and our personal representation of it in our actions.
